Objective
To provide a platform and inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers by challenging young entrepreneurs aged 17 and above to create solutions that tackle everyday issues in Singapore using technology and AI.
Role of the Participants
Our hackathon is specifically designed for students aged 17 and above who are eager to take their first steps as entrepreneurs and innovators.
Our goal is to assemble a diverse range of talent and perspectives, with groups consisting of four students each, who will collaborate and play key roles such as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Financial Officer.
We believe that this unique opportunity will help students develop their leadership skills and gain valuable experience in building real-world solutions using technology and AI.
Meraki Academy will attach an experience Coder/Programmer to groups who do not have coding background

Your task
As a group, you are to come up with a solution where the product/services would help to encourage and improve recycling rate.
You are to participate in our weekly online classes where you will be taught the fundamentals of technology, marketing and finance.

Your task
As a group, you are to come up with a solution where the product/services would help to encourage and improve recycling rate.
You are to participate in our weekly online classes where you will be taught the fundamentals of technology, marketing and finance.

Over the course of the programme period, your key tasks would be the following:
- Design and build a website/app to show how it will innovatively solve the problem statement through technology and AI.
- Your product/solution has to be built on Huawei Cloud using the credits provided to you.
- A deck less than 10 slides to showcase the following:
- How did the team come up with the idea
- How was the product/solution being built.
- How will the team market the solution and to acquire users
- How much investment dollars needed.
You are required to present your solution at our Physical Hackathon Space focusing on the following topic:
- 23 September - Technology - How and why did you build your solution
- 21 Hackathon - Marketing - How are you going to market and scale your solution
- 4 Nov - Finance - How much investment dollars do you need?
The top 5 teams will be heading to the finals to compete on 11 Nov 2023.
Judging Details
Your solution will be judge on the following:
- Problem Understanding and Solution Fit: Assessing the depth of understanding of the problem statement and how well the proposed solution addresses the specific challenges related to reducing carbon footprint.
- Innovation and Creativity: Assessing the originality and novelty of the solution proposed by the participants.
- Use of Technology and AI: Evaluating the effective utilization of technology and AI in the solution, including the sophistication and relevance of the technologies employed.
- User Experience and Design: Evaluating the user experience and design aspects of the solution, including usability, intuitiveness, and aesthetics.
- Feasibility and Viability: Assessing the practicality and viability of implementing the solution in real-world scenarios, considering factors such as cost-effectiveness, scalability, and potential adoption.
- Potential for Scale and Growth: Evaluating the potential scalability and growth opportunities of the solution, including its adaptability to different contexts and potential for wider adoption.
- Presentation and Communication: Assessing the participants' ability to effectively present and communicate their solution, including clarity, coherence, and persuasive skills.
Examples of Solution from around the world to inspire participants
- ePurpose - This is a startup founded by two students from the University of Pennsylvania, which aims to reduce plastic waste by enabling individuals and businesses to offset their plastic footprint. They provide a platform for users to fund the removal and recycling of an equivalent amount of plastic waste from the environment. (https://repurpose.global/)
- Mycotech - This startup founded by two Indonesian students, uses mycelium, the vegetative part of a fungus, to create biodegradable packaging and other products. Their products are made from agricultural waste and are compostable, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. https://mycl.bio/
- Precious Plastic - This initiative founded by Dutch designer Dave Hakkens, provides open source plans and tools for individuals and communities to start their own plastic recycling businesses.
